How it works
For whoever wants to look behind the seal. Nothing is hidden; everything can be checked.
- 01
The seal
The instant you release, how long you held, and your question become one line of text. That line is hashed. The hash is a number; the number is an address in Pi. The same instant, the same hold, the same words would land on the same digits — the address belongs to the act, not to us.
- 02
Pi
Pi does not end. We keep its first billion decimals within reach, and your address falls among them. You can check any address against Google's public Pi service, pi.delivery — the link sits under every reading, and it will show the same eighteen digits.
- 03
The coins
The classic way to consult the I Ching throws three coins six times. We do the same with digits: even is a coin showing two, odd is a coin showing three. Three digits make a line, from the bottom up; the sum — six, seven, eight or nine — makes it broken or solid, still or moving. The odds are exactly those of real coins.
- 04
The reading
The book's judgment, its image and the moving lines are placed next to your question and read under strict rules: only details you wrote, no prediction, the book's verdict given as the book's, and one question handed back. A phrase quoted from you is checked against your words; if it isn't yours, it is removed.
- 05
What we claim, what we keep
We don't claim that Pi knows anything or that the future is written. We claim a very old book of images, held steady next to your own words, at a moment you chose. We keep nothing: your question goes to the reading and is dropped; your readings live in your browser; a shared link carries only the address.
